Hakim Abdul Waheed Sulaymani

Hakim Abdul Waheed Sulaymani, the son of Hakim Muhammad Abdullah (رحمہ اللہ), began his practical career from Jahanian in 1968 after completing his education in Pharmacy and Islamic Studies from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. He founded Idara Sulaymani for the sale and distribution of books and medicines.

On 26 March 1971, the publication of Khawas-e-Shahad resumed under a new management. Within only two months of its publication, Khawas-e-Shahad was completely sold out. In April 1971, Hakim Muhammad Abdullah (رحمہ اللہ) transferred the publishing rights of his books to the Publications Department of Idara Sulaymani. Thus, after evolving through the names Dar-ul-Kutub Sulaymani (Roorkee, India) and Maktaba Sulaymani (Jahanian), the institution came into existence as Idara Matbu’at Sulaymani (Sulaymani Publications).

In August 1974, due to administrative reasons, the institution was shifted to Lahore. Keeping in view the mission of his respected father for the promotion of knowledge and medicine, Hakim Abdul Waheed Sulaymani published the works of Hakim Muhammad Abdullah (رحمہ اللہ) and other renowned physicians with revisions, additions, and in an attractive modern format. Through the publication of these rare and valuable medical books, the institution earned one of the most distinguished positions among medical publishing organizations in the country. As a result of his forty years of dedicated hard work, trust and quality became the hallmark of Idara Matbu’at Sulaymani.

Following the tradition of his ancestors, he established his medical practice in 1971 and has continued, solely for the pleasure of Allah, to serve humanity by providing free medical consultation (Fi Sabilillah). He has a keen interest in traveling throughout different regions of Pakistan to research indigenous medicinal herbs. His easy-to-understand medical articles have been published in Urdu Digest, Roznama Islam, and other newspapers and magazines. These articles were later translated and published in journals and magazines in India, Bangladesh, Dubai, the United States, and the Philippines.

By the grace of Allah and the cooperation of physicians, the institution has earned a reputation and goodwill since its establishment that only a few organizations are blessed with. Your continued trust, by the grace of Allah Almighty, remains the guarantee of our survival. Hakim Muhammad Abdullah (رحمہ اللہ) regarded the promotion of knowledge and medicine as an act of worship, and this vision continues to exist in his successors to the fullest extent. The popularity of the books published by the institution is a blessing from Allah Almighty. Despite limited resources and means, the institution remains steadfast in pursuing its objectives with determination and dedication. At its core, the institution gives priority to the promotion of knowledge and wisdom over financial gain and profit. We are proud that our independent contribution to Unani Medicine is no less than that of any major institution. God willing, this mission will continue.

The practice of medicine and medical publishing is our family heritage and our specialization. The fundamental objective of Idara Matbu’at Sulaymani is to promote knowledge and health by providing affordable, high-quality, and authentic medical and scholarly books to everyone. Our publications include nearly 300 high-quality books covering tested remedies, compound formulations, therapeutics, pharmaceutical preparation, Ayurveda, Kushtajat (calcined preparations), medical curricula, and other scholarly and literary subjects. In this way, the institution has proven to be a pioneer in the revival of Unani Medicine.

In June 2009, we established a new publishing house under the name Adabiyat. Under this imprint, more than two dozen books on Islamic studies, scholarly and literary works, history, and children’s literature have been published so far. God willing, we shall continue to uphold our traditions in this field as well.

The institution believes in purposeful and constructive literature and publishes books that cultivate a genuine interest in reading, promote excellence in knowledge and skills, improve intellectual and physical well-being, and enhance social awareness. Our philosophy is that a book containing outstanding research and original scholarship should be easy to understand, engaging in style, and free from errors. Its calligraphy should be elegant, printing attractive, paper of fine quality, binding durable, and dust jacket visually appealing. In other words, a book should embody both outward beauty and inner excellence. The refined literary taste of those managing the institution strives to ensure authenticity and quality in every publication.

For the international promotion of Unani Medicine, there is an urgent need to translate the works of Hakim Muhammad Abdullah (رحمہ اللہ) and other distinguished physicians into English, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, and other world languages. The institution also intends to utilize Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to facilitate access to rare and valuable books, manuscripts, and old medical journals by eminent medical authors, and to publish knowledge related to medicine and health in an easy-to-understand manner. For this purpose, we feel an urgent need to establish a comprehensive library of medical books.
